Kyoto is easier to read if you start with three lines: the Karasuma Line subway running north from Kyoto Station, the Tozai Line subway running east to west, and the Keihan Main Line along the Kamo River. For sights a little further out, such as Arashiyama and Fushimi Inari, add the Randen, Hankyu and JR lines.

The Kyoto Subway Karasuma Line runs north from Kyoto Station through Shijo and Karasuma-Oike, and the Tozai Line links Nijojo-mae, Kyoto-Shiyakusho-mae and Sanjo-Keihan from west to east. You can change between the two subway lines at Karasuma-Oike. The Keihan Main Line runs along the Kamo River with stations such as Gion-Shijo, Kiyomizu-Gojo and Tofukuji.
The nearest station to Fushimi Inari Taisha is Inari on the JR Nara Line. The JR Nara Line starts at Kyoto Station, and at Tofukuji Station you can change to the Keihan Main Line.
Arashiyama has three different stations: Arashiyama on the Randen (Keifuku Electric Railroad), Arashiyama on the Hankyu Arashiyama Line, and Saga-Arashiyama on the JR Sagano Line (San-in Main Line). From Kyoto Station take the JR Sagano Line, from Shijo-Omiya take the Randen, and from Katsura on the Hankyu Kyoto Line take the Hankyu Arashiyama Line.
Some sights, such as Kinkaku-ji and Ginkaku-ji, have no railway station nearby and are usually reached by bus. Kiyomizu-dera is also a fair walk from the nearest station, Kiyomizu-Gojo on the Keihan Main Line. Flex Railway Map is a railway map and does not show bus routes.
